David Grego - All Basses, All
Tubas
David has a long list of accomplishments. He has
played and recorded with the Jimmy Sturr orchestra and
Nickelodeon's "Blues Clues." In addition to being
the first call sub for Broadway's "Chicago," "Frog and Toad,"
and "Those Were the Days," he was a member of the last aggregate
of the Spike Jones Band. He also recorded the first
recording of Ives' "Universe Symphony" with the New York
Festival Microtonal Music, played Lead Tuba with Howard
Johnson's "Gravity," was Principal Tuba with the New Jersey Pops
and was seen and heard performing on the Coke-a-Cola commercial
"I'd Like to Teach the World to Sing." Other musical
performance affiliations have been with USO Tours-Europe in
1976, the World Festival of Music - Nagasaki, Japan, A&E's
Biography on Groucho Marx and numerous other performances too
many to mention here! David holds a Bachelors and Masters Degree
from the Manhattan School of Music and was recognized with the
Dodge Fellowship Award for excellence in pursuing alternate
route certification in education. He was also adjunct
faculty at Kean University and William Paterson University for
ten years. His current part-time teaching assignment
is in the Berkeley Heights School District where he has managed
to start and maintain a growing string program from grades 4
through 12 during his seven-year tenure. David is
currently in pursuit of finishing his first rock tuba CD,
"Tubaczar." His tuba & guitar duo album, "Communicating
Vessels" was released in December, 2004.
